General information
Adult cloth diapers: a more sustainable alternative?
Cloth diapers aren't just for babies! More and more adults, whether they're concerned about incontinence, committed to an eco-friendly approach, or part of the ABDL community, are becoming interested in reusable diapers. And for good reason: they offer a much more environmentally friendly solution than disposable diapers... provided they're used properly.
According to a report by ADEME (Agency for Ecological Transition), a child uses on average 3,800 disposable diapers to cleanliness, which represents a mountain of waste. In comparison, around thirty washable diapers are enough… but they need to be washed often, which involves water and energy consumption.
The analysis shows that both types of diapers have a generally equivalent environmental impactDisposable diapers are more waste-intensive and cost more to manufacture. Reusable diapers consume more water and electricity... unless they are washed properly (at 60°C, in a full load, without a dryer, etc.) and used for several years or for several people.
