Trend history

This summer's press was rife with articles and shared content about diapers at festivals. At the heart of this frenzy was Olivia Rodrigo mentioning during a concert that some people were wearing diapers to see her in the front row. International Courier (This article is available for free here.) , The Guardian (This article is available for free here.), Ouest France, actu.fr (the best article) and others are discussing this news item again. I'll share my personal analysis later.

Actu deserves credit for making a video and a article which is quite interesting and informative (I highly recommend the article, it is very comprehensive).

Leaving the front row because of a need to urinate? Unthinkable for these fans, who prefer to wear a diaper rather than go to the toilet at a concert.

But this isn't the first time diapers have been named and used. A few years ago, during Taylor Swift's shows, this phenomenon exploded. on TikTok (well, not thousands of people, but still).

Among the points wrongly raised by journalists is the issue of smells. Personally, I find it hard to believe that diapers produce a noticeable odor at concerts (most adult diapers today are equipped with odor-control systems). I would lean more towards the smell of fans relieving themselves directly in the pit, but from a Muggle perspective, I can understand why they might think the smell comes from diapers.

Brands that ride the trend (or create it)

Pit diaper… a diaper for metalheads?

A few years ago, the brand Liquid Death who sells... uh, stuff (merchandise, it seems), caused a stir by releasing a Hellfest-themed adult diaper. page still exists, But honestly, I don't think that diaper was ever released. I've searched in vain for UGC items featuring that diaper, but without success. So it seems more like a company trying to generate some buzz.

Nevertheless, the ad is funny and might be worth a look:

An overt marketing strategy by American brands of real diapers

On the other hand, some companies fully embrace this choice and try to find a market. This is the case, for example, in the US where the company Northshore has made a significant communication effort regarding its purchase their diapers for coming to the festival. There are... blog posts, humorous advertising videos and also testimonials.

An advertisement for Northshore diapers: a police officer talks to a man to ask him if he has the appropriate protective gear for going to a festival
A testimony from Georges, who wore a diaper at a music festival. His diaper allowed him to fully enjoy the event.

It's still a bold move for the brands, but we applaud it. Unfortunately, this trend hasn't reached France yet. We often hear that we're 10 years behind the US. I can't wait to see the Diaper Minister stand at the Vieilles Charrues festival <3.

Conclusion

Judging by this summer, I think the topic of diapers at festivals and concerts is going to become a recurring journalistic theme. We're likely to see these kinds of articles regularly. Nevertheless, I think it's worthwhile. If it can help to popularize adult diapers, encourage new people to adopt the practice, or break the taboo surrounding incontinence, then go for it!

Tips for wearing diapers at a festival

If you've read this far, the prospect of wearing diapers to a festival (or other event—demonstration, outdoor concert, etc.) should pique your interest. So here are some tips on how to wear said diapers and avoid the nauseating smell of urine in crowded restrooms, missing out on a song by your favorite star (not to mention the mental strain of restricting your drinks).

If you've never worn a diaper (at least not as an adult) and you'd like to, I recommend trying it out at home in a quiet, calm environment (and actually using it!), to get a better feel for the sensation. For where to buy them, the different models, etc., I refer you to this video I made to guide people taking their first steps into the world of diapers. Because yes, it's not easy to buy diapers when you don't know anything about them.

Smelly diapers?

No. Diapers don't smell. First of all, when you use diapers to urinate, you notice that they don't give off any odor. Diapers don't smell.

Then, when Olivia Rodrigo complains about the smell in that video, it's more likely she's smelling urine from a man who's urinated on the ground (common at festivals). But adult diapers don't smell (unless, perhaps, your face is pressed against your partner's diaper).

Similarly, when you urinate in it, the diaper is not dirty per se: the fluids are absorbed by the diaper products and the skin is not in contact with liquid.

Discretion

If you're wearing diapers, you don't necessarily want them to be too noticeable. If the white trim of the diaper rides up the back of your pants, it's bound to be a bit of a problem. So, for clothing, it's best to choose loose-fitting, dark fabrics. Besides, if it's dark during the festival, people don't pay much attention to those wearing loose or inconspicuous clothing.

Regarding the type of diaper, I recommend dark diapers. A discreet diaper due to its black color, and excellent in terms of capacity, is the NRU Str8up diaper. Available at diaper minister And France ABDL.

I might make a video one day on tips for wearing diapers discreetly in public. I'll put the link here 🙂

Final tip

When wearing diapers, chafing can sometimes occur in the inner thighs. I advise people to apply an anti-chafing cream to this area. Similarly, when trying out your first diaper, go for a short walk wearing a full one, to better anticipate how it will feel on the first day.

Personally, I use NUK cream, but the other creams are very similar in terms of performance.

Conclusion

Wearing diapers does give you freedom of movement, and especially psychological freedom. Because if you suddenly need to urinate, have an accident, or your period is coming… you're going to spend more time focusing on finding a toilet instead of enjoying the show. With a diaper, at least you're at ease, and it takes the stress out of it.

Finally, note that in some adult festivals, diapers are even quite popular for the look they give 😉
